I know that almost half a week has gone by since Mother's Day, but I am still basking in the glory of it. My Mother's Day was great.
When my husband asked me what I wanted for my big day, I promptly answered, "all things Colleen and to hear myself think." I think he did well.
I woke up to the sounds of this little one giggling and singing. She was supposed to be helping her daddy make breakfast, but hide and seek seemed like more fun.
And while breakfast was being made, I went for a quick run. The run itself did not go so well. It was hot and humid (at 8:30 in the morning!), like running through molasses. My legs felt like they weighed a ton. But it was super nice not to be pushing a heavy jogging stroller and to just put my head phones on and go.
And then to come home to this!
I thought I had died and gone to heaven. These muffins (courtesy of Pioneer Woman's cookbook) were made by my husband and were amazing! Cinnamon-sugar-butter goodness. There is probably a stick of butter in each muffin. But hey, it was Mother's Day... I earned it.
Don't worry. We burned off all those calories with some serious play.
David did not let me lift a finger the rest of the day. While Little B napped, I sat on the couch and finished my book (such an indulgence). I don't even remember the last time I was able to read for more than an hour in one sitting.
David did not stop there. He also made pizzas on the grill using homemade pizza dough. So yummy!
All in all, it was the perfect Mother's Day. And I did get that precious "time to hear myself think", to let my mind wander and relax. Just what I needed to get me re-centered and to appreciate all that I have... My husband that saw the mother instincts in me long before we had any kids. My little girl who made me a mother and taught me to believe in miracles again. And to my own mom, who taught me all that I know about mothering. I am so proud to be her daughter.
Happy belated mothers day to all those out there with the mothering spirit.
